Linode (Akamai Cloud) is a great mid-tier cloud host. Pricing is transparent (unlike some competitors), performance is consistent, and the managed database options are mature. The networking setup can be confusing initially.

Linode (Akamai Cloud)'s developer experience is top class. The CLI tools, documentation, and console UI are all well-designed. Deploying new services is fast and the monitoring built-in is genuinely useful.
