Search on YouTubeGitHub Copilot is the world's most widely adopted AI coding assistant, developed through a partnership between GitHub and OpenAI. Integrated directly into popular development environments including VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, Neovim, and Visual Studio, it provides real-time code suggestions ranging from single-line completions to entire function implementations. The chat interface allows developers to ask questions about their codebase, request explanations of complex logic, generate unit tests, and create documentation automatically. Pull request summaries help teams understand changes without reading every diff line-by-line. Security vulnerability detection flags risky code patterns before they reach production. With support for over 50 programming languages and tight integration into the GitHub workflow, Copilot reduces context switching and accelerates development velocity. Enterprise customers get additional admin controls, policy management, and audit logs. The 1.8 million paid subscribers represent individual developers, startups, and enterprise engineering teams worldwide.
Decent AI tool. GitHub Copilot does well on creative writing and summarization. More complex analytical tasks sometimes miss the mark. The pricing for heavier usage adds up quickly.
GitHub Copilot is my primary AI tool. The output quality on long-form content is excellent and the structured output features in the API are reliable. Occasionally verbose but that's easily prompted away.
GitHub Copilot is useful but inconsistent. Sometimes the output is brilliant, other times it misunderstands context entirely. For routine tasks it's fine, but I find myself double-checking important outputs more than I'd like.
GitHub Copilot replaced several specialized tools in our workflow. Content creation, summarization, competitive analysis โ the quality is consistently high and it's rare to get hallucinations on factual topics.
